It is long road from planting dahlia seeds and tubers to exhibiting the blooms at a show. Novice and horticulturalist a like face the same conditions during the growing season. Wind, rain, sun and temperature can be both friend and foe. Their is no avoiding challenges that insects, viruses, powdery mildew, snails and other critters bring in order to keep the garden healthy. Beautiful blooms are the result of knowledge, care, hard work and once in a while a little luck. At the end of that long road is the show.

Sue Bond has been at the helm of making the NM State Fair flower show and exhibition a reality. When you consider that this event spans 11 days

At 6:30 in the morning there is excitement in the air when the exhibitors arrive to prepare their blooms for display. Judging is 3 hours away and much has to be done in that time. By the time the blooms arrive at the classification check, the exhibitors will have done everything necessary to prepare the blooms for presentation.
